Nuclear energy technology is also called nuclear reactor technology. It involves different intricacies of methods to harness power. It works just like the thermal extraction. Through nuclear fission, power is released from the nuclei of atoms. In a nuclear power plant, this power will be converted just like in a thermal power plant. Basically, fission involves splitting the nucleus into two and a lot of materials are produced as a result. These products will be referred to as fission products which include gamma radiation and free neutrons. The process works when fissile nucleus absorb free neutrons and as more and more free neutrons are produced, the more there will be absorption taking place. These are the basics of nuclear energy technology.

How The Technology Is Controlled

Nuclear energy technology will see manual and automatic controls employed. This chain reaction that includes absorption of free neutrons can be shut down at will. There are many instances when this happens but mainly, when there is a safety compromise, this process will be controlled. There are two main aspects that are used to control this process in the nuclear energy technology. There is neutron poisons and moderators. Since there is a lot of heat that is generated in the reactor core, there is a cooling system in place that is designed to cool the system and to take the heat to a far end of the plant. Nuclear energy is derived from a host of reactions using different materials.

The thermal power that is harnessed does not go to waste. It is used to produce electricity as well as a host of other things. Nuclear energy technology is definitely one of the best technologies of this age. There are different kinds of nuclear fuels that are used for different designs and reactors. Uranium is just an example of a fuel that will extend or increase density of the fuel load. Consequently, reactors for large naval ships and submarines will use highly enriched uranium fuel. Nuclear energy technology is very dynamic and will be designed to suit specific needs.

There is a lot of research that is continually underway to produce different designs of nuclear power generation. This is in a bid to improve the nuclear energy technology. There are so man trials that take place and the future is definitely bright with regard to nuclear. With nuclear energy technology, there is always the danger and risk of the proliferation of nuclear weapons. New designs and concepts are hoping to reduce this to make nuclear cleaner and safer for the world.

The production of nuclear energy comes with very many concerns and challenges. One of them is the safety issue. Nuclear energy safety is one of the biggest topics that have not been fully resolved. There is a lot of waste that is produced when nuclear energy is being harnessed. Nuclear energy safety comes in because most of this waste is radioactive. In other words, this matter has the power to poison people and the environment that people live in. Safety is of paramount importance and different nuclear producers have devised some ways to deal with the concerns.

Why Nuclear Energy Safety Is Important

Nuclear energy technology is highly advanced and it includes nuclear fission. This is facilitated by different nuclear reactions that are vital for the energy to be produced. The end result is waste that ranges from used fuel to nuclear rods that have been used with reactors. Nuclear energy safety ensures that this matter does not come into contact with living things. This will help preserve the environment. However, with nuclear energy safety, there needs to be a great level of trust with countries that have this technology. This is because nuclear waste can be dumped in human living zones without their knowledge.

With regard to stepping up efforts on nuclear energy safety, scientists are looking into ways in which the nuclear rods can be recycled. This is because when the rods are spent, they will have to be disposed. If there are breakthroughs, these rods will be reused and nuclear energy safety will be boosted. This waste is able to stay for thousands of years with its poison or radioactivity intact. This is the magnitude in which the issue of safety has to be considered. To ensure safety, places of disposal of this waste are near the reactor’s site. This ensures that experts keep an eye on the substances and make sure that they do not pose a threat.

To address nuclear energy safety, countries like the United States are considering more permanent methods of disposal of the waste. They are looking into underground storage and one good example is the Yucca Mountain. After several years that are not below 10, the materials will decay and it will no longer pose any threat to population. However, not all kinds’ nuclear waste can be disposed this way. There is waste that needs at least hundreds of years to reduce their toxic nature. There is so much to think about regarding nuclear energy safety and citizens need to be aware so that they can completely be safe.

One of the biggest problems with nuclear energy is the waste. This is because with the production of nuclear energy, a lot is left as nuclear energy waste and the problem comes in disposing it. There are different ways that nuclear energy countries use to get rid of the waste. The following is an overview on some of the ways that are employed to deal with toxic waste that has the power to claim lives if disposed improperly. Nuclear energy waste must be managed in the right way for there to be success with regard to disposal and storage.

Ways In Which Nuclear Energy Waste Is Stored

In the many ways that nuclear energy waste is stored, it is temporally. For this reason, there are different dynamic ways that have been devised to deal with the issue of storage. It is absolutely vital to realize that there is no long term nuclear energy waste method yet. This is because there are lots of dynamics that come to play when it comes to handling this kind of waste. Nuclear energy safety has to be considered and, this is the main reason why the available methods are closely vetted to ensure that organisms and the environment is protected from harm.

There are different kinds of nuclear energy waste materials and an example is nuclear fuel rods from reactors that have already been used. This nuclear energy waste has been found to be more radioactive of all the waste that is nuclear. When nuclear rods have been used, they are very hot on removal from the reactor. There is a temporary pool in which they are kept in a bid to cool them. This pool is filled with boric acid. There is usually no other storage place in sight and many will stay put for years. These pools will be enlarged to make more room for more spent rods.

Since there is great realization that there is need for a better nuclear energy waste storage and disposal system, another method which is temporary is being employed. It is the dry storage of the spent rods. Here, the rods will be stored in concrete bunkers in casks that are reinforced. These casks will mainly be located near the reactor site and the nuclear energy waste material can continue to be stored far away from people and organisms that are living. It is pretty vital for all states that have this kind of power or energy to be careful when it comes to matters nuclear.

Where Does Responsibility Lie?

Who determines the cost of a life compared to nuclear energy cost when things go wrong? The governments and companies concerned don’t take responsibility for problems that may occur if a nuclear reactor does happen to “go wrong”. What would the point be to do so; everyone in close proximity to the reactor will be dead in a short while anyway, so why worry about that problem? Well depending on the weather conditions, a whole lot more people can be dead within hours of a major catastrophe, so accountability could also be out of the window.

Price Comparisons

Even though comparing the fossil fuel to nuclear energy cost against each other, they seem to be about the same. The only advantage is that the nuclear energy cost may be about the same as fossil fuel but the volumes will differ vastly. The output is what is used to compare the prices. So much coal would give the same amount of power as so little Uranium. Unfortunately the Uranium on the planet is also being depleted slowly but surely, even with its long life span of radio activity which is nuclear energy waste after it has been used, and the point of so little is required to make so much power, alternative safer and cleaner methods for power needs to be implemented.

When All Goes Well

If all things run smoothly, not every one worries about the nuclear energy cost, as long as they have power to their homes and businesses, and life just carries on like every other day. Let one little mishap happen, and everyone is up in arms. Knowing about what powers the country is important, especially when safety is an issue. No one can compare the price of lives to the nuclear energy cost to power a country. Do the people in the country have a say what type of energy should be used to power their homes and businesses, or are they too minute to be seen by those conglomerates and in government where they should be working for the better of the nations?

Then again, it doesn’t matter what the man in the street says, as long as the nuclear energy cost is still low and long lasting, and the power generating companies are still making fat profits, the man on the street does not have much of a say at the end of the day. Instead of the world trying to meet demands for power, it needs to curb the population growth, which depletes the planet of all resources on a daily basis.

The time has finally arrived when governments around the globe are apparently trying to avoid the use of fossil and nuclear power energy. Since time began, man has mined the earth of its jewels and started to drain all other resources, and most are now so depleted that alternative methods to even the nuclear power energy are needed.

Coal has been mined for centuries, we see it in the movies how men used to work all day and come home as sick as dogs; pitch black with soot all over them. This is still done today, but since Mother Nature’s resources are running low including Uranium, which is the main source to produce nuclear power energy, the demand for alternative methods for fuel and power has increased dramatically.

What The Scientists Are Up To!

Since this whole debacle of the ozone depleting and the fact of emissions has been punted by scientists around the world that it increases the point of global warming, which we know they have been paid grants to convince us of, they do too try and find alternative methods to generate power.

Alternative Energy Resources

In countries such as Switzerland, which is Eco friendly, the use of fossil fuels is out and nuclear power energy still supplements hydro energy to produce power for the country. The use of wind turbines in the North Sea supplements the usage of unsafe, hazardous nuclear power energy. The use of nuclear power energy is safe, if it is done correctly, unlike with Chernobyl, where a lot of things went wrong as technology may not have allowed for proper intervention at the right time when needed to shut the reactor down due to problems.

Costs Involved

Even though the nuclear energy cost is about the same as fossil fuels do, such as coal, there are benefits. The main benefit is that it takes so little Uranium, compared to coal, to still create power. The downside is that once the energy has been used from the Uranium it has to be buried or stored safely for a very long time for it to deplete its radio activity. Even though the financial cost may seem the same, if things go wrong using this energy source, there is no price tag that can be placed on the damages that it can cause globally. With explosions, and toxic ashes and dust that drift in the winds over seas and continents, not only are the immediate surroundings affected, but wherever the wind blows too leaving deposits of radio active Uranium are gravely affected.

What really constitutes nuclear energy is a result of fission (the splitting of the nucleus) and fusion (coming together of the nucleus) and nucleic decay of the nucleus of an atom. It may sound intricate and complicated and indeed it is so. But for scientists it translates to nothing more than poetic energy which describes the nature and the exquisite form of a molecule.

The wealth reaped from the nuclear power energy has made many a nations rich as nuclear energy can be manipulated to transform simple lead to gold.

Bloody Riches Of Nuclear Energy

This then begs the question of the real motive over the nuclear energy war in Iran. The commercialised use of nuclear energy has sparked greed from wealthy nations globally. Just as the greed and search for diamonds in Africa has killed many innocent people, are we then expected to assume that we need to prepare for the new age genocide over nuclear energy?

Currently the Security Council imposed harsh sanctions over the abuse of nuclear energy in Korea. The bombastic display of power by rich nations over who can blast the biggest nuclear weapon poses serious concerns on us as human species as to the peaceful application of nuclear energy.

Could it really be so idealistic to assume that in a society based on tolerance and the sanctity of human life, that there could still be sickening greed for power that blood of civilians has to be shed in the pursuit of nuclear power?

Is it so idealistic to assume that the power display of nuclear energy blast and tests and nuclear energy wars be the solution? In our rational understanding, the use of nuclear energy as a form of force does not heal wounds but open news one. Surely we should have learnt something form Hiroshima. That, my good person, is the legacy and power of nuclear energy.

Lessons can be learnt from countries such as New Zealand which as nuclear free policy.

Yes, perhaps, the nature friendly way of harvesting gold as opposed to mining and scaring the earth for it riches lay on the solution called nuclear energy and its manipulation.

Surely the use of nuclear energy has to be a subject that needs some serious debate if we really care about the earth we live in, the sanctity of human life we treasure and the legacy we want to leave for the future generation

You’ve heard that fossil fuels may run out one day and not only that but they’re bad for the environment. If everyone agrees on these points, why aren’t we using renewable alterative energy such as solar power and wind power? The answer is that we are using renewable alternative energy. It’s just that it hasn’t reached massive scales as of yet. Some builders are hopping onto the renewable alternative energy bandwagon by creating LEED certified buildings. That stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. And some houses are using solar power so that they don’t need to pay electric companies for the energy they use. However, we are still very dependent on fossil fuels as far as our homes and cars are concerned. We won’t make a full transition to renewable alternative energy until everyone, and that means everyone, is onboard for such a change.

Gas and Oil

There are billions of dollars invested in the gas and oil energy. Gas stations, car manufacturers, farms, buildings, factories, ships, and our military all use fossil fuels. To change that fact would take billions more dollars and it would mean many would be out of a job. A change of that magnitude isn’t going to happen overnight. For us as a society to move to renewable alternative energy we’re going to have to change how we think about energy. Our cars will have to use something other than gas. That means gas stations may have to shut down or change what they offer altogether. The entire gas and oil industry will either shut down or they will change their focus to renewable alternative energy. We’re going to have to move away from nuclear energy which is potentially very dangerous. These are huge changes and it’s going to take a world paradigm shift for us to move towards using energies other than gas and oil.

Start at Home

You can’t wait for the whole world to shift to using renewable alternative energy. Start at home by using solar energy instead of paying the electric company. Switch to an electric provider that uses renewable alternative energy. Make donations to companies dedicated to this cause. Beyond using renewable alternative energy, educate everyone you know about using these types of energies instead of relying so much on fossil fuels. If everyone did this, the world would make the transition sooner and the world would be a better place. So do your part starting now to move to renewable alternative energy instead of relying so much on energy that takes centuries to produce and will run out before we know it.

Everywhere you turn there are doomsayers saying we need to wake up and start using renewable alternative energy or else the world will end. The jury’s still out as to how bad it really is, but the fact is we would be better off if we all got behind renewable energy production. See, the world is currently dependable on fossil fuels. These are fuels that took centuries to produce and once they’re gone it’s not like we can just get more. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Renewable energy, however, describes those types of energy that are in abundance. They’re always available. These are energies such as solar power, wind and wave energy that comes from water. All we need in order to use these types of energy is to move away from fossil fuels and to turn to renewable energy production. First, however, we all need to get behind such a change.

What’s Holding Us Back?

If moving towards renewable energy production is such a good thing, both for our society and for our planet, why isn’t everyone getting behind such a change? Well, there are billions of dollars already invested in fossil fuels. If we no longer needed gasoline and coal, and other fossil fuels, think of all the money it would take to convert our current society to the use of other energies. Think of all the gas stations that would have to completely remodeled, the oil and gas industry that would shut down and become obsolete, and think of all the cars that would have to be converted to using renewable energy instead of gas. The fact is our society is deeply dependent on these fuels and moving towards renewable energy production and use is no small feat. It’s going to take time and it’s going to take lots of money but eventually we can get there.

How You Can Help

You can make a difference in helping our society move towards renewable energy production by making an investment to companies devoted to renewable energy production. These companies want to build the structures that will harness and make use of these types of renewable energies. Then, once these are up and running, and everyone sees how much better the world will be when we all get behind renewable energy production, then maybe the rest of the world will wake up. Until then, you can begin getting behind renewable energy production, and you can begin to educate those around you so that hopefully we can move quickly towards a world where we’re no longer dependent on fossil fuels and we’re all behind renewable energy production so that we can give something to future generations that will help our species live on indefinitely.

You’ve probably heard of Going Green, LEED, Global Warming and other terms that describe using renewable energies, eco-friendly resources and being eco-conscious. This is all because we need to seriously think about our future as a human race. We can’t just keep using the same dirty fuels we’ve been using and expect the environment to take it. Eventually we’ll end up poisoning our environment which could wipe us out as a species. To counter this, we’ve been looking towards renewable energy production. Renewable energy describes those energies that are constantly renewing themselves. These include wind, solar, water, and other energies that come from nature and that are constantly available. These are nothing like fossil fuels that take centuries to form and are only in limited supply. We currently rely heavily on fossil fuels and once those are used up, we just might have to revert back to horse and buggies to get around and lanterns to light our way. However, if we make renewable energy investments, we’ll have all the energy we’ll ever need and the planet will be better off because of it.

How to Make An Investment

To make a renewable energy investment, you can sign up for one of those electric companies that use renewable energy. There are a few out right now due to our eco-friendly conscientiousness and they allow you to make a renewable energy investment that will help to build infrastructures that will sustain future generations. These include wind mills, water mills, solar cells and more. You can also look for investment firms that specialize in these types of energies where you can make a true difference. You don’t have to invest a lot. A twenty five dollar renewable energy investment from lots of people will go a long way. Once the renewable energy investment is made, the structures will be built and we can move slowly from dirty fossil fuels to more sustainable forms of energy and hopefully we can reverse all the damage we’ve done to the atmosphere and the overall environment.

Doubting the Science

Some people doubt that global warming exists. Some even think that we are in no way in danger of ever running out of fossil fuels, it’s just that we are limited to where we can drill due to current laws and practices. This may or may not be true. However, whether you believe in the science or not, it would be better for everyone involved, and that means every human as well as every animal and plant on the planet, if we moved to renewable energy sources. Everyone should make a renewable energy investment so that we can move forward as a culture and we can live in a more harmonious relationship with mother Earth.

Nearly everyone familiar with the term “going green” knows what a renewable energy source is. They’ve heard the terms “solar energy” “wind energy” and maybe even “hydropower” because those are the types of renewable energy that are spoken about most often. But most people seem to be unaware of biomass renewable energy and how much of a great renewable energy investment it would be.

Where Does Biomass Renewable Energy Come From?

Basically, biomass renewable energy comes from organic materials like animals or plants. These materials contain energy that is stored from the sun (plants absorb sunlight as energy and when humans and animals eat those plants, it transfers to them). Examples of biomass renewable energy sources include manure, some types of garbage, wood and crops.

Energy is obtained when the biomass renewable energy source is burned, putting out heat. Wood and garbage are burned as a biomass renewable energy source to released heat or steam to make electricity. The heat can also be used to actually provide adequate heating for homes.

Wood and wood waste is the most common form of biomass renewable energy – in fact, it’s been used even before people had any idea what renewable energy was. Around 150 years ago, burning wood was the only way to produce heat or steam to power the things people used, and since trees can be replanted, it was the world’s first true renewable energy source used.

There are other ways of getting biomass renewable energy from these sources as well. Certain biomass renewable energy sources can be converted into other forms of energy like methane gas, ethanol or bio diesel fuel because methane gas is the main ingredient in the world’s natural gas. Biogas – the smelly stuff produced by rotting garbage and human waste – also release methane gas, which is sometimes called biogas. Certain crops, like corn or sugar cane, can be fermented to produce ethanol, another kind of transportation fuel. And even bio diesel can be made using left-over food products like vegetable oil or animal fats. The best part is, all of these things – crops, garbage, waste – are produced anyway because humans need crops to eat and they then turn those crops into garbage and waste. The other things, like animal fat and vegetable oil, are used and discarded, meaning using them as a biomass renewable energy source is the same thing as recycling!

Clearly, biomass renewable energy is catching on – currently around 3% of the energy used in the United States is in the form of biomass renewable energy.
